Take Your Dog to Work Day

June 15, 2020

Did you know that June 26th is Take Your Dog To Work Day? Of course, More people are working from home than ever before. That means many of our canine patients are already accompanying their humans to work! In this article, a local Greater Cincinnati vet offers some tips on getting things done with Fido underfoot.

Schedule

If possible, walk and play with your furry pal before you start work. It may not be a bad idea to tire your dog out with a vigorous round of Fetch in the morning. That way, Fido will hopefully nap through a good chunk of your workday. We also recommend walking your four-legged friend on your breaks. This is actually a great way for you to get some exercise, fresh air, and sunlight!

Meetings

Dogs are very loyal and protective. However, these traits don’t necessarily make Fido a good co-worker. Some Zoom meetings are getting disrupted because somebody’s dog barks … which then sets everyone else’s pups off! Before having a meeting, put your pooch in another room with some background noise.

Workstation

Man’s Best Friend certainly does have a knack for getting into mischief. It’s a good idea to petproof your work area. This may very well fall under the ‘an ounce of prevention’ protocol. We recommend using spill-proof cups for beverages, in case your pet accidentally crashes into your desk. You don’t want Fido knocking your drink over onto your computer! Make sure Fido can’t chew, trip over, or get tangled up in wires. You may also want to put a comfy pet bed and some dog toys nearby. That way, your canine pal can stay close to you but still stay comfortable and entertained. (Tip: puzzle toys are a great option here.)

Moral Support

The Coronavirus pandemic has kept a lot of people at home over the last several months. To look on the brighter side of things—at least from Fido’s viewpoint—many pups are absolutely thrilled to have their humans around more than usual. Dogs are great help at keeping our spirits up. They’re always there for us, and are ready to boost our spirits with tail wags, smooches, and happy dances. Keep Fido’s tail going by offering him lots of toys, treats, and belly rubs!
