National Veterinary Dental Month
Veterinarians across the country recognize February as National Dental Month. Dental disease is one of the most common health problems seen in dogs and cats. According to the American Dental Society, 80% of dogs and 70% of cats show signs of having oral/dental disease by the age of three. Most of these problems are related to the accumulation of tartar on teeth. As tartar build-up continues, a variety of problems can occur including gingivitis (gum inflammation), bad breath, and periodontal disease-a condition in which the tooth starts to separate from the gum and the bone.
